The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) continued the momentum they gained after their win in the first game against Gujarat Giants and cleaned up Delhi Capitals' (DC) powerful lineup. The Meg Lanning-led side was all out for 141 runs, as RCB became the first team to enforce four all-outs in the Women’s Premier League (WPL).
RCB had a great start to the game, courtesy of Renuka Singh Thakur, who dismissed her Indian teammate Shafali Verma in the first over by getting the swashbuckling batter caught at mid-off by skipper Smriti Mandhana. After that, Jemimah Rodrigues and Lanning had a good 59-run partnership in just 39 deliveries, with the former looking in supreme touch.
However, Rodrigues went for a daring shot too many and was stumped by Richa Ghosh while attempting a reverse sweep. That began a consistent fall of wickets as DC were 62/3, 84/4 and 87/5 in no time. Sarah Bryce (23 off 19) and Shikha Pandey (14 off 15) tried to hold the flow of wickets, but both failed to bat till the end.
Renuka was excellent throughout the innings and dismissed the dangerous Annabel Sutherland and also Pandey to end up with figures of 3/23 in four overs. With five wickets in two games, Renuka also has the Purple Cap in the season now.
Georgia Wareham also redeemed herself after being expensive against Gujarat and also picked three wickets for just 25 runs in her four overs.
DC have now been all out in consecutive games against the defending champions RCB after being all out in the WPL 2024 final. Overall, RCB have enforced four all-outs in the WPL. Mumbai and UP Warriorz are behind them with three instances each.
