The spin-bowling all-rounder from Sri Lanka, Kamindu Mendis owns a rare ‘ambidextrous’ skill, and that was on display in Match 15 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Eden Gardens on April 3 (Thursday).
Making his IPL debut for SRH, Mendis was introduced into the attack in the 13th over and the 26-year-old wasted no time in showing his ambidextrous skill.
Mendis started with left-arm spin against right-hander Angkrish Raghuvanshi and switched to offspin the moment left-hander Venkatesh Iyer came on strike.
The all-rounder wasn’t just there to showcase his ambidextrous ability as the spinner got rid of Angkrish Raghuvanshi on the fourth delivery of his first over.
Just after completing his second IPL fifty, Raghuvanshi tried to hit Mendis towards the cover region but ended up slicing it to the fielder at sweeper cover, where Harshal Patel claimed a great running catch.
Mendis just conceded four runs in his first over and also managed to get rid of well-set Raghuvanshi (32-ball 50). This was his only 18th wicket in the T20s.
