Punjab Kings (PBKS) decimated the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by eight wickets, as they chased down 172 with 22 balls to spare at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on April 1 (Tuesday).
This was the second win in a row for the Punjab side, which is captained by Shreyas Iyer and coached by Ricky Ponting.
So, what is the secret of the early success of the Punjab side? Answering that, Iyer, in the post-match presentation ceremony, said, “To be honest, there is no right combination. The camaraderie and synergy have to click at the right time. All teams have the potential to win the game. You just need to have a similar mindset of wanting to win - that is what we always talk about.”
Rishabh Pant, who has been on the losing end on two out of three occasions and has been struggling through his personal form, was critical of his batters. He said, “We were 20–25 runs short. It is always going to be tough [to get to a bigger total] when you lose early wickets. You cannot control each and everything, but each player is trying to take the game forward.”
Prabhsimran Singh, who was Player Of The Match for his 34-ball 69, which set the tone for the chase, was all praise for his coaches.
Speaking about messages from the likes of Ricky Ponting, he said, “They are legends. Whenever they speak, it is always positive. They ask us to go with just one mindset, and that is to win. They have asked us to back our game.”
