Shreyas Iyer’s luck ran out after the right-handed batter was dismissed cheaply for 16-ball 17 against Jammu and Kashmir on January 24. The newly appointed Punjab Kings skipper edged a ball earlier in the innings, with the on-field umpire S Ravi giving it not out, shocking both the bowler and J&K fielders.
In the aftermath of that incident, J&K’s Abdul Samad was also seen walking towards the square leg umpire to take that decision upstairs. Until then, Iyer had already shown his cards openly with a crunching boundary off the first ball.
During his short stay at the crease, Iyer showed great attacking prowess, with four boundaries out of his 17 runs. Aquib Nabi had the last laugh, dismissing Mumbai’s limited-overs skipper, which was yet again controversial. Ajinkya Rahane, who is leading Mumbai, wasn't too pleased with the decision, and had a long chat with the onfield umpires before Iyer started to walk off the park.
Chennai Super Kings’ star all-rounder Shivam Dube didn’t survive for too long, with Nabi continuing his stellar form, removing the left-hander for a four-ball duck at the stroke of lunch. At the time of writing this, Mumbai had wiped off J&K’s first-innings lead, with scores now level.
