Virat Kohli is by far the most successful player in IPL with the bat. No batter has scored as many runs as Virat in the biggest franchise cricket competition. He also is the only player in the 18-year IPL history to never be a part of the IPL Auction nor play for any other team aside from Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
Amongst all the greatness and an illustrious career, he also has found some success with the ball as he has taken four wickets in the competition.
Here is a look into all four of his wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL):
Chamara Silva, the Sri Lanka batter, was Virat Kohli’s first scalp in the IPL. Kohli dismissed Silva for a duck in the 13th over of the innings, halting the Deccan Chargers' aggressive batting display. This was Chamara Silva’s last appearance in the IPL, as the Lanka batter did not play further in the IPL.
D Ravi Teja was one of the first local domestic talents from Andhra who played in the IPL. The Deccan franchise invested in the middle-order batter for 4-5 seasons in return, not getting much out of him.
In this instance, Kohli cleaned up Ravi Teja, resulting in him finishing with figures of 2/25, which is, to date, Virat Kohli's best bowling figure in T20 cricket. Ravi Teja and Virat Kohli go back a long time, as both of them became buddies while playing for the India A and U19 setup during 2006-08.
After being RCB’s only retention in IPL 2011, Virat Kohli started the 2011 season with a fresh new group around him in RCB’s first game of the season against the debuting Kochi Tuskers Kerala in Kochi.
Batting first, Brendon McCullum hammered the RCB pacers Zaheer Khan and Dirk Nannes early on. Virat Kohli came to bowl in the 11th over and dismissed McCullum in the third ball when the Kiwi legend went down on his knees to play his trademark scoop behind the keeper. The edge went the other direction, going straight to Dirk Nannes in short third position, dismissing McCullum for 45.
Wriddhiman Saha is Virat Kohli’s last dismissal so far IPL as Saha who was then playing for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) came out at #5 and was rebuilding the CSK innings with captain MS Dhoni when CSK were reduced to 22/4 in powerplay.
When Saha was on 22, Virat, who came to bowl his first over, dismissed Saha in the third ball. He bowled a back-of-length delivery with no pace on it, resulting in Saha hitting it straight to Luke Pomersbach, who was at deep square leg.
So far, these are the four wickets taken by Virat Kohli in IPL. He has not bowled a single over in IPL since 2016. It will be a major surprise to Virat Kohli bowling as heading into IPL 2025, the bowling unit of RCB looks formidable.
