India’s mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy once again made a mockery of Harry Brook in the second T20I against England in Chennai on January 25 (Saturday).
Brook looked completely clueless against Chakravarthy in the first T20I and was eventually knocked over for 17 off 14.
In the press conference ahead of the second T20I, Brook had blamed ‘smog” for his struggles against Chakravarthy in Kolkata.
“Chakravarthy is an exceptionally good bowler. But with the smog the other night, it was a lot harder to pick. Hopefully, the air is a bit clearer here and we can see the ball a bit easier,” he had said.
Brook once again came face to face against Chakravarthy, this time in smog-free Chennai, but the result was once again the same.
Chakravarthy brought out the googly straightaway, and it took him just one delivery to knock over Brook. The right-handed batter could only score 13 off 8 in the second T20I.
Brook was trolled by Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri, who were on commentary during his dismissal. “You don’t need the smog! The ball just snuck through and hit the stumps," said Shastri.
Meanwhile, Gavaskar added: “Well you said it! The light is clearer here in Chennai. At Kolkata there was some smog. No smog here. No idea where the ball was going. It hit the top of the stump. Harry Brook gone for 13. Look, is there any smog there?”
Brook averages 52.33 and strikes at 165.26 against pace in T20Is, but those numbers drop to 16.63 and 120.36, respectively, against spin. And 40 T20Is is a very decent sample size.
