In what comes as a significant blow to Gujarat Titans (GT), their ace speedster Kagiso Rabada has flown back home to South Africa due to personal reasons.
Rabada, who was bought by GT for INR 10.75 crore at the mega auction, played the franchise’s first two games of IPL 2025 but missed the clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 2 (Wednesday). Skipper Shubman Gill said at the toss that Rabada was missing the clash due to personal reasons.
It’s now been confirmed that the speedster has flown back home due to a personal emergency.
“Kagiso Rabada has returned to South Africa to deal with an important personal matter,” GT said in a statement, reported Sportstar.
Despite being GT’s talisman with the ball, Rabada did not enjoy the best of games against both Mumbai Indians (MI) and Punjab Kings (PBKS). Across the two fixtures, he took two wickets but went for 83 runs. His fellow countryman Gerald Coetzee is the backup overseas seamer in GT’s squad.
GT have won two of their first three games in IPL 2025 and are currently fourth on the points table.
