Babar Azam, in the second T20I between Pakistan and South Africa at SuperSport Park, Centurion, became the 11th batter and just the second Pakistani ever to cross the 11,000-run mark in T20 cricket. He got to the landmark in style, hammering leg-spinner Nqabayomzi Peter for a massive six over mid-wicket. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, David Warner and Jos Buttler are some of the others who have scored over 11,000 T20 runs, with Chris Gayle (14,562) being the highest run-getter in T20 history.
Babar is the second Pakistani batter after Shoaib Malik to reach the 11,000 mark in T20s. Malik has 13,415 runs to his name and is the second-highest run-getter of all time in T20s.
Among batters who have scored 11,000+ runs in T20s, Babar’s average of 43.54 is the highest. The right-hander is also the only batter in T20 history, aside from Chris Gayle, to have smashed ten or more T20 hundreds. Babar has 11 centuries. Gayle, though, has twice as many, with 22 to his name.
On the night, despite getting off to a very positive start, the right-hander couldn’t capitalize, departing for a well-made 31.
