The hype around the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), seems to have done more bad for the runners-up of the last season, at the start of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. They were touted to be the first team to reach the total of 300 in the league and the hope gained momentum after they smashed 286 in their very first match of the season against the Rajasthan Royals.
However, after the first game, they had two miserable outings against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Delhi Capitals (DC). Now up against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their fourth match of the season, which will be played on April 3 (Thursday), the team has already given up on that 300 dream. Their fielding coach said that 300 had never been their expectation.
"Our team is suited to playing an aggressive style, but we don't speak of about 300 as an expectation that is put on us by other people. We try to play a positive brand of cricket. It's a strength of ours, and we try to double down on our strengths,” Ryan Cook, SRH’s fielding coach, said in the pre-match press conference on April 2 (Wednesday).
Talking about how they are trying to initiate their comeback after back-to-back losses, Cook said, “Everyone’s in good spirits. We’ve got a team that’s very well-bonded. The morale is good.”
“You’re bound to have a couple of losses, sometimes they come in a row, sometimes they come one by one," he added.
